A series of in-person events bringing together the best and brightest minds in women’s sports.

Philadelphia, December 16, 2024 – The 39th Annual National Girls & Women in Sports Day (NGWSD) will be celebrated on February 5, 2025. Temple University’s School of Sport, Tourism and Hospitality Management and the United Women’s Ball Hockey Foundation (UWBHF) are pleased to announce, Strong Women Strong Sport, a series of events held in conjunction with Temple’s annual celebration of National Girls & Women in Sports Day.

Strong Women Strong Sport will take place on February 7-8, 2025, in Philadelphia, PA, offering an inspiring lineup of in-person events designed to celebrate and advance women in sports. Highlights include a thought provoking think tank, youth sports clinics, dynamic networking opportunities, and the inaugural UWBHF Hall of Fame ceremony. This powerful gathering will unite sports enthusiasts, advocates, and leaders to honor the achievements of women in sports, empower the next generation, and amplify the ongoing progress of women’s athletics.

Event Highlights:

Women in Sport Think Tank (FRI 2/7): Explore the future of women’s sports with thought leaders from diverse disciplines on topics relevant to the growth, progress and amplification of women and girls in sport. More than a conference, Think Tank participants will actively engage in sessions to learn, contribute and impact athletics for women and girls, leaving with new tools, resources, networks and strategies. Think Tank participation is by invitation only, if you are interested in attending, please fill out the interest form on the website. Think Tank topics include:

  • Emerging Sports & Grassroots Development Efforts: Explore the evolution and exciting opportunities in up-and-coming sports. Create strategies from industry leaders to support the scalability and expansion of local sports initiatives.
  • Marketing & Representation: Develop an understanding of the experiences of women athletes and fans, fostering diversity, and advancing equity in marketing of women’s sports.
  • Leveraging Partnerships/Sponsorships in Women’s Sports: Strategies from industry leaders to develop and hone fundraising strategies, partnership building, and sponsorship solicitation.
  • Leadership & Coaching: A powerhouse session for coaches, leaders, and administrators in women’s athletics.

Emerging Sports Learn-to-Play Clinics (SAT 2/8): Through fun drills and mini games, children (ages 7-14) will have the opportunity to learn, practice and play popular emerging sports: ball hockey, flag football, rugby and soccer. On Saturday, February 8, 2025, the ball hockey clinic will take place from 10am-1pm at the Gustine Recreation Center and the multi-sport clinic (flag football, flag rugby and soccer) will take place from 1:30pm-4:30pm at the Starfinder Foundation. Registration opens in early January and can be submitted via the Strong Women Strong Sport website.

UWBHF Hall of Fame Induction Award Banquet & Celebration (SAT 2/8): This inaugural event aims to honor and recognize the outstanding achievements, contributions, and legacies of individuals within the sport of women’s ball hockey. The United Women’s Ball Hockey Foundation Hall of Fame is dedicated to honoring those who have shaped the sport and inspired future generations by ensuring that deserving individuals are celebrated for their achievements and legacies. Networking Opportunities: Throughout the two-day event, participants have the opportunity to connect with like-minded individuals who share a passion for the amplification of women’s athletics during social events dedicated to participants.

There is a seat at the table for everyone at this first-of-its-kind event celebrating the past, present, and most importantly, the future, of women’s sports. National Girls & Women in Sports Day (NGWSD) began in 1987 as a special day in our nation’s capital to recognize women’s sports. The day united premiere organizations and elite women athletes to bring national attention to the promise of girls and women in sports.
